About Alex

This summer will be a landmark between multiple aspects of my life: single to married, student to employee, and Indiana to unknown. I am excited to be married, find a job, and move, but fortunately I have been given the opportunity of a summer just to be “between”. During this time I hope to reflect on my life and then guide the decisions that I will make in the future through filling up on various interactions with people, God’s creation, and culture.

I am a person who feeds off of interaction with people. My energy comes from the presence of others and I highly value others’ outlook on life and how their experiences have shaped them. So, this summer I am anticipating to be transformed by all kinds of interactions, and I expect those interactions to come from a variety of sources: strangers, God, conversations with Kyle, and letters of love and reflection to my fiancĂ©.

Our trip has significant meaning and purpose for both Kyle and I, but I must confess that my love for the outdoors and the idea of exploring my country through the lens of a motorcycle rider definitely excites me.

Below are some interesting things to know about me as well as a reference written by my lacrosse coach, Brad Bowser, at Taylor University.
  1. When fishing, I am known as “The Postmaster”... I know where the fish live.
  2. I am half Filipino and half Irish.
  3. My fiancé is an inch taller than me and it is a beautiful thing (truly marrying up). Her name is Alyse Robertson and she has been gracious enough to encourage me to take this opportunity.

I am just writing a reference for Alex so everyone will know that he is on the up and up. I have had the pleasure to get to know Alex and Kyle this year while coaching them on the Lacrosse field. It can be very telling how a person reacts when they get hit really hard, when they get yelled out to move their feet or when they lose a big game. I can testify that Alex is one of the most gracious, kind, fun-loving people I know. He has great character and lives his life well with others. The funny thing for me is how much he is like my son who is four- just a lot bigger. I can't wait for my son to be like Alex.

Today they leave for the trip... Let the games begin...
Okay, embarrassing that I am not the first to post something about Alex and that I am the fiance. I guess it's alright if our marriage counselor, Coach B, is the one who beat me to it. So far, what has been said about Alex is true. I have enjoyed being the person who gets to know the most about him in these past years of dating and engagement and look forward to continuing this for a long, long time. (forever, in case you were wondering) I am really excited for this trip for both Alex and Kyle, a little sad too. Most of all, I'm just wondering, 'Where is my side car?' No, it's good. I will be nannying for a great family this summer at home. Alex and I are getting married in September and that is just great. Hopefully, it will also be cooler so some of us don't sweat(the whole time!)...

To the Postmaster and his neophyte fishin' bud: After your mom and I drove away from Kyle's house today, the Lord was gracious in reminding me of his power, mercy, love, and grace that He has poured out on us to bring you to this point in your life. Our times are in His hands, and He is faithful and trustworthy. As we followed you in our car as you rode to Kyle's house on your fully loaded bike this morning, we could only entrust you to God's care, and pray expectantly.

Kyle, I gave Alex my entire flybox of nymphs, so be sure he gives you some good ones, particularly the
rainbow warrior (the fly on the bottom row on the right hand side). Let the fish count begin...first, most, biggest. No fish stories, please. Photodocumentation only. I will try to refill the box with more "special" flies when, God willing, you pass by Durham in a couple of weeks.

Please extend our thanks to your gracious host in the Motor City.
